Supporting Our Community

While we run an animal sanctuary focused on providing a safe haven for senior and medical needs animals, at the heart of our mission is animal advocacy. From spaying and neutering, fostering and adopting, to educating and community outreach. It’s ALL a passion of ours.

According to Shelter Animals Count’s 2024 Mid-Year Report there has been a 5% decrease in dog adoptions from 2019 to 2023. (Cat adoptions rose 14%) Another study by LendingTree reported that among pet owners, 85% blame inflation making it difficult to afford their pets. 76% cited increasing costs of pet food as a challenge. For the 31% of Americans who don’t own pets, affordability is a major factor, with 25% saying they simply can’t afford the costs. One thing’s for certain, for many folks, having a pet has a financial impact. Among those surveyed, 64% of pet owners reported making sacrifices, such as cutting back on personal spending, skipping vacations, or taking on additional debt for other expenses. But what about those that don’t have the luxury of sacrificing with trade-offs? Many of those pets end up surrendered to local shelters.

Keeping animal population under control and animals out of shelters takes a multi-faceted approach. Not only does City of Hot Springs Animal Services assist with spay and neutering, they also have a Community Pantry. This pantry serves the residents of Garland County. Any person can visit the shelter and request a bag of food once a month. That is, as long as there is food in the pantry. Their hope is that by providing food to those in need, the greater chance animals can stay where they are…with their family and OUT of the shelter. Doing so reduces the burden on the shelter system and also lowers the count of euthanasia.

We believe in lifting voices of other organizations also performing advocacy work. For years we’ve quietly supported organizations, especially shelters, through donations of food and enrichment treats. When we began our 501c3 we asked ourselves, “How else can we help the animals and our community?” and began a monthly donation drive to support the City of Hot Springs Animal Services.

We’ve chosen to support HSAS because we believe in the work they do to support animals and the community. City shelters receive a pre-determined budget which they must operate within, so they must do their best to stretch their dollars. By choosing to support the shelter we’re trying to bridge the gap where funding can fall short.

How it works:
-We've worked with the HSAS team to determine their needs and created dedicated Amazon wish list with those items.

-The drive is launched the 2nd Friday of each month and items purchased from the wish list are delivered immediately upon purchase.

As of May 2025, over 2800 pounds of food have been donated. Interested in participating? Shop the Amazon wish list link below!
